Lagos State Government Bans Keke and Okada in 15 LGAs

Tha Sanwo-Olu led government has banned the use of Keke Napep (Tricycles) and Okadas (Motorcycles) in selected areas across the state.

In a statement released by Gbenga Omotosho, the commissioner for information and strategy on Monday, He said the ban was decided after a “robust assessment” between the State security council and the Lagos State Government.

The assessment was focused on the safety of motorcycles and tricycles as a means of transportation in the state due to rising figures of accidents and casualties.

According to the commissioner, “there were over 10,000 accidents recorded at the general hospitals alone between 2016 to 2019, and this number excludes those recorded by private hospitals and the unreported cases.”

He aslo talked about “The rate of crimes aided by motorcycles (Okada) and tricycles (Keke) keeps rising. Motorcycles (Okada) and tricycles (Keke) are also used as getaway means by criminals.”
